A rare look inside our Jaipur workshop — where master artisans transform premium marble blocks into divine, spiritually powerful moortis using time-honoured techniques passed down through generations.

Step by Step

The Craft Behind Every Murti

Seven meticulous stages — from selecting the finest marble block to the final blessing and packing — every step guided by decades of artisan experience.

Selection of premium marble blocks

Selection of Premium Marble

The process begins with the careful selection of high-quality marble. We source our marble from the finest quarries, ensuring it is free from cracks, impurities, and discolouration. The type of marble used depends on the design and size of the murti — with popular choices being Vietnam, Makrana, Italian, or Rajasthan marble.

  • Hand-inspected for veining, purity, and colour consistency
  • Sourced from trusted quarries in India and Vietnam
  • Matched to design size and deity requirements

Shaping

Rough Block Cutting

The selected marble block is cut into a rough shape using diamond-tipped tools and machinery. This step ensures the basic form of the murti is achieved while leaving room for detailed carving.

  • Precision-guided by measured design drawings
  • Diamond-tipped saws for clean, waste-minimal cuts
  • Basic silhouette established before hand-carving begins

Fine Detailing and Refinement

Once the basic structure is carved, the murti undergoes fine detailing. Artisans add delicate features such as facial expressions, jewellery, clothing patterns, and other intricate elements. This stage ensures the murti radiates beauty and spirituality.

  • Facial expressions carved with meditative precision
  • Ornaments, jewellery, and drapery hand-detailed
  • Deity-specific mudras and symbols verified by scriptural guidance
Smoothing and surface preparation

Preparation

Smoothing & Surface Preparation

The carved murti is progressively smoothed using graded abrasives and files, removing tool marks and preparing the surface for polishing. Artisans work by hand around delicate features to protect the fine detailing achieved in the previous stage.

  • Multi-grade abrasive smoothing for even texture
  • Special care around eyes, hands, and jewellery
  • Surface inspected under multiple lighting conditions

Finish

Polishing for a Radiant Glow

The murti is then polished to bring out marble's signature luminosity. Multiple stages of polishing — mechanical and hand — deliver the deep, mirror-like glow that Makrana and Vietnam white marble are celebrated for.

  • Wet polishing with fine-grade compounds
  • Hand-buffing on curves and detailed sections
  • Final gloss inspection under natural light

Colour & Ornament

Painting & Ornamentation (Optional)

For clients who prefer coloured murtis, our artisans apply traditional pigments and gold leaf with steady, devotional care. Eyes, garments, jewellery, and tilak are hand-painted using long-lasting, natural pigments that honour classical iconography.

  • Hand-painted eyes, tilak, and facial features
  • Gold leafing on crowns, ornaments, and borders
  • Skipped entirely for pure-white marble finish requests
